HOW TO REACH US AND WHERE TO PARK
The Locanda is located within the Sassi district of Matera, which is a Restricted Traffic Zone (ZTL). Consequently, driving into the Sassi ZTL to reach us is not permitted.
We recommend looking for street parking outside the historic center or heading to one of the following garages:
GARAGE AUTOSERVIZI DAMASCO – Recinto XX Settembre No. 12 (a few minutes’ walk from the Locanda; open 7:30 AM – 8:30 PM). To guarantee a spot, you must book directly with Garage Damasco via their website (here), by calling +39 3891924077, or by emailing info@autoservizidamasco.it.
GARAGE SISAS – Via Timmari, 2
(Email: parkingsisasmatera@tiscali.it – Tel: 0835 404239 – Mobile: 392 1301727 / 338 5009645). The daily rate (24 hours) is €15.00 for cars and €20.00 for vans and SUVs. Garage SISAS offers a direct shuttle service for €5.
Alternatively, you can use the parking lot at Via Rocco Scotellaro 1, which operates on an hourly rate.
Due to their internal procedures, garages require direct contact with the customer; therefore, reservations cannot be made through the Locanda.
Upon request, we offer a free shuttle service from the garage to the Locanda. The shuttle picks up guests approximately every 20–30 minutes (depending on traffic) between 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM. Alternatively, you can always reach us in the historic center via authorized taxis.
How to reach us
By Plane
Bari-Palese airport is the closest to Matera (50 km). From here, it is possible to take a direct bus to Matera, a taxi, or a rental car. Upon request, we can organize a shuttle service from the airports of Bari and Naples-Capodichino.
By Car
From Naples you take the highway to Salerno, and then follow the A3 highway in the direction of Reggio Calabria. You exit at Sicignano to head to Potenza, where you take S.S. 407 (“Basentana”) until the turn-off for Matera near Ferrandina Scalo. You continue on this road another 20 minutes to arrive directly to Matera. From Bari you take S.S. 96 for Altamura and then Matera. From other places in the South, from the Ionian coastal road S.S. 106 (“Ionica”) there is a turn-off for Matera via S.S. 175.
By Train
With Trenitalia, the national railway service, it is possible to arrive at the Ferrandina-Scalo station (on the line to Taranto), and from here make use of the bus connections that go directly to Matera. From Bari Centrale, a private railway, Ferrovie Appulo-Lucane (FAL), operates a service with several trains daily.
By Bus
There are bus connections for Matera from all main Italian cities.
